March 27, 2012 - Meet the Devil

Cera checked her watch for the third time in as many minutes and tapped her foot impatiently.  Around her, the flotsam and jetsam that made up the usual airport denizens at three in the morning shuffled, stumbled or lurched their way past aluminum-grilled store fronts and rows upon rows of empty plastic chairs.  It always felt like a ghost town during this time.  Cera hated the emptiness and loneliness of the place but her boss was insistent and inflexible regarding his travel plans.

The butt-crack of dawn, Cera groused.  What sick, sad individual actually prefers working these hours?  Oh, wait.  That's right.  My boss.

And it's not as if Cera had a leg to stand on in the complaint department - she had willingly accepted this position when she'd milked the last drops of her unemployment benefits last month and had been told in no uncertain terms that she'd better get a job pronto or not only would the checks stop coming but she'd be in arrears for the last few that she'd drawn.  So when Travis had pointed out the ad - obscure in and of itself but riddled with enticing catch phrases like 'flex hours' and 'creative license' - Cera'd been all over it and had punched in the digits before her common sense could kick in.

And so, here we are, playing Alfred the butler to Mr. Tall, Dark and Non-communicative for the third time this month.  What does he do in Dubai anyway?

Cera vowed to grow a pair this time and ask her employer point blank.  After all, a girl can't be too careful these days and Cera didn't just graduate from UCLA to become some drug mule's personal chauffeur or anything. She kept an eagle eye on the gate.  The plane had landed ten minutes ago and the stragglers had come out one by one but still no Dante.

Where the hell is he?
